WIN Project update: July - December 2022

This is the third Project Update of the OSCE Secretariat Gender Issues Programme’s WIN Project, aimed to inform about the key milestones and upcoming plans. In light of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, this update is dedicated to the project’s work in the elimination of violence against women and girls.

Key highlights

A joint OSCE-WAVE Toolkit on preventing and responding to gender-based violence during the war and in post-war settings was launched and is available in five languages.

30 trainers from law enforcement and justice sector from South-Eastern Europe were prepared to conduct trainings on gender-responsive policing of violence against women and girls, in cooperation with the Strategic Police Matters Unit.

A side event at Warsaw Human Dimension Conference focused on challenges and opportunities of the law enforcement response to violence against women and girls.

The project invited 21 women human rights activists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ukraine to share their experiences and discussed how to enhance protection and response to violence against women and girls in wartime and post-conflict period.

Website launch

During this period, the project also launched its website along with the video, explaining what is the scope and the envisaged impact. These products are important entry points for potential project beneficiaries to understand how their work fits into the project activities and what is the value offered to them. As the WIN Project Community Platform is in its pilot phase, the website is also instrumental in making the platform more accessible by opening up the possibility for any interested user to already sign up for participation.

As part of the OSCE’s #16days campaign, the WIN Project spoke to four women leaders, who represent the authors behind the joint OSCE-WAVE Network Toolkit on preventing and responding to gender-based violence during the war and in post-war settings.

Every year, the WIN project joined OSCE’s efforts by developing and disseminating advocacy products and organising events to engage the decision-makers around the importance of addressing gender-based violence as a prerequisite to achieving gender equality and sustainable security. This year’s campaign is focused on amplifying voices of women peacebuilders and activists working on GBV and highlighting the critical role that women-led organizations play.
